Scene 20: Beatrice’s Point of View

Interior, Cathedral – Day

The cathedral is filled with the soft glow of candlelight, illuminating the intricate stained glass windows that cast colorful patterns on the stone floor. Beatrice, with her long, flowing hair and serene eyes, stands beside Father Gabriel. The atmosphere is one of quiet reverence and solemn determination.

BEATRICE
Father, you said you would teach me how to heal. I want to help in any way I can.

FATHER GABRIEL
Of course, my child. Healing is a noble art and one that requires great compassion and faith. Here, take this copy of the Codex Sanitatis.

He hands Beatrice a well-worn, leather-bound book. The Codex Sanitatis, filled with sacred texts and illustrations, seems to pulse with a soft, golden light.

FATHER GABRIEL (guiding her through the book)
This codex contains the sacred words and rituals for healing. Let me show you how to use it.

They walk to a small side chapel within the cathedral. Father Gabriel opens the codex to a page with intricate Latin script.

FATHER GABRIEL (demonstrating)
Place your hand over the afflicted area and say these words: “Sanare Tactu.”

He places his hand on a volunteer’s arm, who has a minor cut. As he speaks the words, a soft glow envelops his hand, and the cut begins to heal instantly.

BEATRICE
Sanare Tactu. (Repeats the words, watching intently)

FATHER GABRIEL
Good. Now you try.

Beatrice, filled with determination, places her hand on the volunteer’s arm and repeats the incantation. Her hand glows softly, and the cut heals completely.

BEATRICE
It worked! I can really do this!

FATHER GABRIEL
You have a natural gift, Beatrice. Your desire to help others is your greatest strength.

As they continue to walk through the cathedral, Beatrice’s curiosity gets the better of her.

BEATRICE
Father, this undead army… has something like this happened before?

FATHER GABRIEL
Yes, my child. The history of the Order of Crossinium is steeped in battles against the forces of hell. Since our foundation, we have fought to prevent the destruction of humanity.

He pauses, looking at the grand tapestry hanging on the cathedral wall, depicting an epic battle between angels and demons.

FATHER GABRIEL (continuing)
The Order was created for this very reason. Hell has always sought to destroy and bring about the end of humanity. We are the bulwark against that darkness.

They walk further until they reach the main hall, where the echoes of a battle can be heard. Beatrice’s eyes widen in fear and curiosity.

BEATRICE
What is that noise?

FATHER GABRIEL
Stay close to me.

They hurry towards the source of the commotion. As they turn a corner, they see Bishop Gregor engaged in a fierce battle with a demonic shadow.

Exterior, Cathedral Courtyard – Continuous

The courtyard is a chaotic scene of light and shadow, with Bishop Gregor battling the shadowy figure of Be-el. The shadow is dark, with a demonic aura, and speaks in a voice that is a mix of screams and whispers.

BISHOP GREGOR
You will not taint this holy place, demon!

BE-EL’S SHADOW (in Latin, demonic voice)
Non potes me vincere. (You cannot defeat me.)

BEATRICE
Father, we must help him!

FATHER GABRIEL
Indeed. Let us join the fight and protect this holy place.

BEATRICE
We can do this. We must stand together.

Father Gabriel rushes forward, ready to assist.

FATHER GABRIEL
Lux sancta! (Holy Light!)

A ray of holy light shoots from Father Gabriel’s hand, striking the demonic shadow and pushing it back. The shadow roars in pain, momentarily weakened.

BISHOP GREGOR
You will fall, creature of darkness!

He swings his blessed weapon, striking the shadow with a powerful blow. The shadow recoils but does not dissipate.

BE-EL’S SHADOW (recovering, darkly amused)
Non intellegis quid agam. (You do not understand what I am.)

FATHER GABRIEL
Use the Codex! Help the wounded!

BEATRICE
Sanare Tactu…

She places her hand on a wounded acolyte, healing him instantly. The acolyte, now revitalized, joins the battle with renewed vigor.

BE-EL’S SHADOW (taunting, in Latin)
Vos omnes peribitis. (You will all perish.)

FATHER GABRIEL
We will not let this darkness prevail! Lux sancta!

A second ray of holy light strikes the shadow, causing it to falter.

BEATRICE (healing another wounded acolyte)
Sanare Tactu…

BISHOP GREGOR
By the power of God, we will banish you!

The combined efforts of Father Gabriel, Bishop Gregor, and the acolytes push the shadow back further.

FATHER GABRIEL
Remember your training! Use the Codex Maleficiorum!

The acolytes, inspired by Father Gabriel’s words, begin to chant incantations from the codex, their weapons glowing with holy light.

BE-EL’S SHADOW (struggling, in Latin)
Non potestis vincere me. (You cannot defeat me.)

BEATRICE (praying softly, holding the Codex Sanitatis)
Sanare Tactu…

As she heals another wounded acolyte, the tide of the battle begins to turn.

BISHOP GREGOR
Back to the darkness from whence you came!

The shadow roars in defiance but begins to dissipate under the combined assault of holy light and incantations.

BE-EL’S SHADOW (retreating, in Latin)
Non hoc ultimum. (This is not the end.)

The shadow vanishes, leaving the courtyard in silence. The acolytes cheer, and Father Gabriel and Bishop Gregor share a look of grim satisfaction.

BEATRICE
We did it. We really did it.

FATHER GABRIEL (placing a hand on her shoulder)
Your faith and determination were instrumental, Beatrice. You have a gift. Never forget that.

The scene ends with the characters drawing strength from each other and their faith, fighting valiantly to protect their sacred ground and each other. They stand united, knowing that the battle may be over, but the war against darkness is far from won.

FADE OUT.
